Game, set, match!
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of year when hitting things with racquets is okay. It’s time for the Beaver Area girls varsity tennis season, one of the winningest programs at Beaver Area.
Hannah Doughty is a senior on this year’s tennis team: “This year is going pretty well. We’ve been able to defeat some teams who are usually our biggest competitors like Quaker Valley and Neshannock,” explained Doughty.
When asked how she thought she was performing, Doughty had very little to say.
“Alright, I guess, but there’s always room for improvement,” said Doughty.
“We’re currently on a winning streak, so hopefully we can keep that up. I also hope that we continue to play hard throughout the rest of the season with section singles, doubles and WPIALs,” said Doughty.
“Being a senior isn’t the greatest feeling. Especially since there’s only 10 of us on the team; we’ve all become really close,” said Doughty.
Olivia Rabak is junior on this year’s tennis team.
“So far the season is going great! We are on the road to winning the section, we placed third in MACs, and currently have a section singles champion, Devyn Campbell, who will be competing for the WPIAL singles title,” said Rabak.
Unfortunately, Rabak is currently out with a stress fracture injury.
“The highest point in our season I believe is when we beat Quaker Valley. This is the match that we had been waiting for all season. This match would determine the team section champion. I am beyond proud of the team for how they played at this match, especially because it was the first match I would be out due to my injury, and the team only had two days to practice with new positions,” explained Rabak.
“My injury was an upset to the team, being that I’m the number two singles position; it was going to change the lineup immensely. However, the freshmen on the team really stepped up and showed that they were determined to get better and make up for the loss, and they’ve really come through and have showed they can handle it, which makes me prouder beyond what words can explain,” said Rabak.
This year the varsity girls tennis team has defeated Quaker Valley 3-2, and Neshannock 4-1.
“I expect the rest of this season to go great. We can only get better as the year goes on, and hopefully we can go far into the playoffs and make it to the state championship,” said Rabak.
Students can come see the varsity tennis team at the tennis courts located next to the junior lot.
