The Beaver Area boys basketball team is leaving their losses behind in 2021.
To get into the holiday spirit, the boys were hoping for an early Christmas present and win against section rival Lincoln Park High School December 21. Although the game did not go the way the Bobcats had hoped, the team is determined to use this loss to help them learn from their mistakes. A tough 98-48 Bobcat loss against the powerful Leopards.
Junior Aiden Townsend was named player of the game for netting 15 points, snagging 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
After the holiday, the boys and girls basketball teams traveled to CCBC to compete in the CJ Better’s/RBA Classic Tournament. December 28, the boys tipped off again Aliquippa High School—another section rival for the Bobcats. Unfortunately, the boys lost by only a three-pointer, 64-61, but were determined to use this loss to motivate them against Beaver Falls High School the next day.
The next day, the Bobcats returned to the CCBC Golden Dome to take the court against the Beaver Falls Tigers. The boys knew this would be another tough game, but they were determined to win. At the half, the Bobcats were ahead by 12 points, but unfortunately the Tigers tied up the board sending the game into overtime. The boys held with Beaver Falls all game and into overtime until the Tigers pulled ahead by only two points resulting in another tough Bobcat loss, 72-70.
A special congratulations to senior Josh Hill for receiving the CJ Betters Academic Scholarship Award at the tournament.
“The tournament went well even though we didn’t win. We learned a lot and are going to grow from it,” said junior Liam Gibson.
Starting off the new year, the Bobcats tipped off against one of their biggest section rivals—Blackhawk High School. Unfortunately, the boys came up short resulting in a 52-37 Bobcat loss. It was a tough loss for the Bobcats, but the boys know they can learn from this loss and grow into the best team they can be.
The boys now sit on a split 4-4 overall season record—not bad for a team under new management . . . And especially impressive for Coach Kaiser and the team when compared to last season’s 2-17 struggle.
This week, come support the Bobcats as they tip off against Montour High School at home tomorrow and Quaker Valley High School January 14 at home. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.; show your support!
