“Everybody please welcome to the field your Beaver Area varsity marching band!”
Even with the loss of 11 strong senior marchers at the end of the last school year, under the outstanding leadership skills of senior drum major Evan Linkimer, and with this year’s strong student leadership team and the addition of 22 talented new musicians, the expectations for this year’s marching band season are running high.
Sophomore Becca Mizer is this year’s clarinet section leader. It will be Mizer’s third year in the marching band
“I’m really excited for this season! Everyone is working very hard, and it definitely shows when we perform at games,” said Mizer.
This year’s show is titled “Light up the Night” with song selections such as “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga, “Some Nights” by F.U.N., “Locked out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars, and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” by Fallout Boy.
Senior Anthony Bernardi is this year’s percussion section leader. It will be Bernardi’s fourth year in the band.
“This should be a very promising year for the band. We’re doing great so far, and I think we’ll make a lot of progress as the season continues,” explained Bernardi.
“The Band is making great strides so far this season! Our student leaders our doing a great job of leading, organizing, and planning rehearsals. I’m excited to see the continued contributions of everyone in the band, especially our newest members,” said band director Mr. J.P. Scanga.
You can see the band perform at every varsity football game during halftime Friday nights. You can also enjoy the band as they march in various downtown parades such as Light-up Night (November 29), Veterans Day (November 11), Homecoming (October 5), and Memorial Day (May 25).
