The dedication and determination has shown in every game this season. And that means the Beaver Area girls basketball team has won section champs.
The last time the Bobcat girls were section champs was in 2017.
The girls ended the regular season strong at South Side High School February 10. The girls left the court with a 51-25 win to end their 2020 regular season 12-2. The player of the game was awarded to junior Natalie Priest.
“It was a great way to end the regular season on a high note and helped to give us some motivation going into playoffs,” said junior Priest.
Carrying their adrenaline into the WPIAL playoffs the Bobcats trampled their opponent, Seton LaSalle, with a 52-17 win after traveling to North Allegheny February 22.
“We played really well defensively holding them to only 17 points. Playing good defense allowed us to knock off the rust offensively from now playing a game in a while. We also got the nerves out during that game,” said junior Anna Blum.
The second round of the WPIAL playoffs tipped off February 26 at East Allegheny. The team faced a team they’ve already played twice (1-1), the Avonworth Antelopes. It was a close game but the Beaver Bobcats came out on top with a 42-37 win.
“It took a big team effort to pull off that win. We needed everyone to do their role and give it everything we had, and it paid off,” said junior Emma Pavelek.
“We are excited about how the season went and we are hoping to win the WPIAL championship,” said Coach Gregory Huston.
The Bobcats will compete in the state playoffs; however, the game time is still to be determined as of the time of writing.
