If hard work was the only determining factor in winning or losing, especially for the Beaver Area Boys soccer team, there’d be a lot more W’s in the books.
But, alas, that’s not the case.
Still looking to add more wins to their record, the boys took on Central Valley High School September 18; unfortunately, the results were not in the Bobcats’ favor.
After an evenly played game that was tied 2-2 for most of the game, the Central Valley Warriors took the lead late in the second half to win 3-2 over the Bobcats. Bobcat goals for the game were by seniors Krystof Purtell and Connor Masters.
Continuing to search for a win, the Bobcats took on South Fayette High School September 21 at home. With high hopes that this game would add a win to the record book, the boys worked hard, but again fell short and lost 3-1 to the lions.
The Bobcats’ lone goal was scored by senior Garrett Pander, and junior goalkeeper Robert Cestra recorded 14 saves for the Bobcats.
In a nail-biting game against Blackhawk High School September 24, the boys dug deep in hopes they would be able to finally bring home a much deserved win. Unfortunately, the boys came up short and could not break the 0-0.
September 27 the boys traveled to Montour High School. After holding the Spartan 1-0 in the first half, the Spartans came back and scored 3 more goals for defeat the Bobcats 4-0.
“At the beginning of the season, the team’s hopes of a playoff run seemed in reach, but after some early struggle and losses we realized we needed to do something,” said Cestra. “So right now we are going to try a new formation and hope we get some success and some wins.”
After a very tough week of games, the boys had high hopes for finally getting a win September 29 against Chartiers Valley High School to start off the second half of their season. Unfortunately, it ended in results that are becoming too familiar to the boys—another 3-1 loss for the Bobcats. Senior Cameron Crivelli scored the boys’ lone goal.
“Going into this next week, we need to work harder at practice and be more focused,” said junior Alex Tomalski.
After a tough couple of weeks, the boys’ record unfortunately does not show much improvement. The boys are now 1-6-1 in section play. This week the Bobcats travel to Moon Area Tuesday, JV at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m. and Sewickley Academy Saturday for a varsity only match at 12 p.m.
Plus, Thursday is senior night! Show some support for the six senior as they take on Central Valley. The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and the game starts at 7:30 p.m., be there!
