It’s October, fall is here, the leaves are changing, but it’s not red, orange, and yellow you’ll see—it’s all pink because it’s Pink Out!
October is breast cancer awareness month, and to show their support the Beaver Area Bobcats almost always (excluding COVID related hiatuses) hold an annual pink out at multiple sporting events.
The TLC club sells pink-out T-shirts every year that are always the bright pink color that almost everyone now associates with October. This year they are a light hot pink with a breast cancer ribbon, the words “Pink Out” boldly front and center, as well as a Bobcat head on the front.
The Beaver Area Bobcat varsity football team played the Chartiers’ Valley Colts under the Friday night lights for a home game at Pat Tarquino field October 15. Kickoff for the game was at 7:30 p.m. The team was victorious with a score of 34-28.
The Bobcats scored with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter to send both teams into overtime.
Each team got the chance to try and score from the ten yard line in four downs. The Bobcats scored on their fourth down, with the field goal kick easily going through. Chartiers Valley traveled almost nine yards on the first down, but they were ultimately held for three downs at the one yard line and did not score, resulting in a Beaver Area win!
The junior varsity football team played Saturday at Chartiers’ Valley, on the Colts home field.
“I’m really excited for the game, and I'm confident the Bobcats will win,” freshman Emma Cunningham said Friday morning.
The football players are not the only ones looking forward to the Pink-Out festivities, with both the boys and girls soccer teams playing their annual Pink-Out games this week.
The Beaver Area Bobcat boys played their soccer game Saturday with junior varsity playing at 11 a.m. and varsity playing at 12:30 p.m.
The girls will play Monday with junior varsity playing at 6 p.m and varsity playing at 7:30 p.m.
The marching band performs their weekly halftime show at the football game as well as a pregame show.
The band will be accompanied by the Beaver JROTC color guard as the band plays the national anthem and the cadets present the colors.
“The marching band participates [in the pink out] by decorating their instruments and uniforms in the pink spirit wear,” junior Caleb Starkey, a snare drum player, stated.
