This year has been big for music. Music legends like Beyoncé, Kanye West, and The Weeknd have all released new albums, and there’s still plenty more coming this month. Here’s a list of the most notable September albums and what we know about them . . .
Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl: Hold the Girl was previewed by four singles: “This Hell”, “Catch Me in the Air”, “Hold the Girl”, and “Phantom”. The singles revealed a change in stylistic direction for Sawayama opting for a glam rock approach with slight country influences. The album was released September 16.
Weezer - SZNZ: Autumn: SZNZ: Autumn is the third release of a four-part box set, the first being SZNZ: Spring released in March and SZNS: Summer released in June. SZNZ: Autumn was described as a dance rock album, different from the others in the set (which is good to hear as the past albums are awful) and released September 22.
Alex G - God Save the Animals: Alex Giannascoli, professionally known as Alex G, is set to release his ninth studio album, God Save the Animals. All songs on this LP were written by Giannascoli in his Denver residence. The album was described as more sonically dynamic than his last releases, as apparent in the album’s singles, “Miricals”, “Cross the Sea”, “Blessing”, and “Runner”. God Save the Animals debuted September 23.
Kid Cudi - Entergalactic: Entergalactic is the upcoming eighth solo studio album by rapper Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi (Kid Cudi). The album will be accompanied by an adult animated television special of the same name. The album and series are set to be released this Friday.
Björk- Fossora: Fossora is the tenth studio album by Icelandic music trailblazer Björk and preceded by three singles, “Atopos”, “Ovule”, and “Ancestress”. “Atopos” is a heavily experimental song with mixes of reggaeton beats and bass clarinets. Those unfamiliar with Björk’s music may find the single outright unlistenable. Björk describes Fossora as a “biological techno” album. Sonically, the album is about bass, and Björk brought in six bass clarinets and the assistance of Indonesian electronic group Gabber Modus Operandi for the beats. Fossora is set to be released Friday.
