‘Tis the season!
Beaver Area Chamber Choir is a group of student carolers dressed in old-timey (Charles Dickens era) costumes to spread community holiday cheer. The Chamber Choir travels to different local events like Light-Up Night and the Christmas celebration at Old Economy Village, bringing the joy of music throughout Beaver County.
Mrs. Susan Metelsky is the seasonal group’s sponsor and has organized Chamber Choir for nearly 25 years.
The Chamber Choir secured seven gigs this year including: singing at Shaker Woods in October, Light-Up Night November 25, Old Economy Village and New Brighton Wassail Walk both December 3, at the WBVP Radio Station December 8, at College Square Elementary School’s Christmas Party December 8, and finally at the Beaver Falls Library December 9 to conclude the season.
Although every event was special to the carolers, singing live for the radio station was embraced by the Chamber Choir as an exceptionally incredible opportunity.
Freshman Kailyn Connelly shared, “it was very nerve wracking in the beginning, but as soon as we started singing, the nerves went away. I really enjoyed being there, and I am so glad that we were invited!”
Freshman Manuel Garcia added, “singing at WBVP was just so fun—being able to sing on a broadcast and think about reaching out to people who may not be able to hear us [in person].”
Chamber Choir often performs outside, either in the afternoon or at night, which can often be difficult. Singing outdoors can be a challenge to singers because of the cold and dry weather.
Though many of the members were returning from last season, Chamber Choir welcomed a few new faces to their group. Senior Abigail Dawson, Garcia, and middle school student Kalii Cooper-Hanlon were excited to join this musical endeavor.
“Chamber is different from the other music programs I’ve been involved in because it’s not as stressful,” said Dawson. “It’s more laid back and we just get to enjoy singing holiday songs together.”
Although the Chamber Choir’s season is officially over, it doesn’t mean that the festivities have to stop! Stay happy and healthy, and have a great holiday season!
