COVID-19 has not stopped these volleyball all-stars from spiking their opponents.
Beaver Area High School’s varsity volleyball team is on a roll with an outstanding record of 10 wins and no losses, and they don’t plan on stopping. They have high expectations after last year’s season of 17 win and just four losses.
“We are very talented, and we honestly have no weak spots in the lineup. We have potential to win WPIALs and states if we keep working hard,” stated senior captain Eden McElhaney.
To senior Emilee Hohenshel, Hopewell is one of the biggest challengers that the team has this year, also stating that playing Hopewell for a second time is what she is most excited for in this upcoming season.
However, McElhaney has a different idea: “I think our biggest competition is ourselves. We are ranked second in 3A and have no 3A experience. The only team placed over us is Franklin Regional—and we can for sure beat them.”
The Bobcats are in a new section this year, now being placed into the 3A section of the WPIAL, and are performing well despite no experience in their new section.
Excitement is in the air as McElhaney is ready for her last high school season.
“I am most excited to just be able to play with my teammates one last time. We are all so lucky to have a season and we want to take advantage of the time we have together.”
Friendships and bonds are always made during sports season and each time a member is added to a sports team.
“My favorite part about volleyball is making the friendships. I’ve played for three teams since seventh grade and I’ve met hundreds of amazing people and some of my lifelong friends. It’s a sport that really brings girls together,” McElhaney explained.
The Bobcats take on the Central Valley Warriors tonight at home at 7 p.m. hoping to come out with yet another Bobcats victory.
