AP Art is on the move! In mid April, art students will take a two-hour bus ride for the annual AP Art field trip to Fallingwater in Mill Run, Pennsylvania.

Fallingwater is the famous house that is an architectural art piece created by famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The house is built over a waterfall and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Historic Landmark.

The house was designed in 1935 and construction began in 1936. The house was designed to combine natural, organic composition with architecture.

The trip will be led by art teachers Mrs. Rachel Zahn and Mrs. Emily Sgrignoli.

Permission slips will be distributed to eligible students in the coming weeks.

Forty students are expected to attend the trip including AP Art, Digital Art, and Fundamentals of Clay students.

The field trip will consist of a tour of Fallingwater given by the curator of the Fallingwater Museum. The curator will share insight into the architecture and the history of Fallingwater, along with discussing the way the iconic house represents an interaction between art and humanity.

Mrs Zahn said, “People from all over the world travel to see Fallingwater. It’s an amazing opportunity for high school students to be able to experience such a unique piece of historical art.”

Every year, students on the trip are assigned a task to complete. Last year, students went to Randyland in Pittsburgh and had to fill out a scavenger hunt and find aspects of art.

For Fallingwater, students will be asked to explain how “architecture and art come together in unique and unexpected ways,” according to Mrs. Zahn.

Senior Antonella Brkich said, “I’m so excited for this trip; Fallingwater is such a unique place to be able to go for a field trip!”
