It all comes down to this moment: King Damianos of Akielos vs. Prince Laurent of Vere.
King Damianos, formerly known as Damen, must save his people from Vere’s grasp—The Regent in particular.
The Regent has always despised his nephew, Laurent, but would he go as far as to team up with the enemy? The enemy that is responsible for Auguste’s death (Laurent’s older brother)? Yes.
The Regent wants Laurent to feel the knife twisting in his chest. When Laurent and Damianos team up and form an even greater army than the Regent’s, he is in for a rude awakening.
Laurent and Damianos must work together for the sake of both their countries. If they fail, their nations fail. Laurent and Damianos, his brother’s killer, (an unlikely pair) will team up to take Kastor (Damen’s half-brother) and the Regent down no matter what it might take.
Although who speaks for their alliances? The Akielos people despise Vere and vice versa. In fact, tension is already building in the camps.
When Damianos and Laurent battle it out one night they realize that if they work together and show equality, others will follow suit.
As previously known, Damianos was Laurent’s slave before all of this happened, but what happens when those slave cuffs come off?
Damianos already wears one to never forget the love he had for Laurent. This is highly frowned upon in Damianos’s royal position. The golden cuff shows submission. Therefore, at a ceremony of their unification, Laurent does the same. He dons the cuff and holds it up for all to see.
By doing so, the troops see their equal importance and have more respect for the two men. The lifelong feud still continues though. Vere and Akielos from the beginning of time did not get along. How will they now? How will they form an alliance to defeat the Regent?
Find out in Kings Rising by C. S. Pacat. Will these two unlikely allies follow through and work together? Or who will turn on who first? This is a game of cat and mouse with Damianos and Laurent right in the middle.
