Will this be the comeback year for the Beaver Area boys basketball team?
The Bobcats are looking to have a winning season this year—the first in a long time—and so far, so good as the Bobcats sit on a 3-1 overall record. During the off-season, the boys trained hard in preparation for their season under the direction of first-year Coach Casey Kaiser.
The boys started their season with an away non-conference scrimmage against Carrick High School December 10. The Bobcats' hard work and dedication were shown on the court, but unfortunately Carrick defeated the boys by one three-pointer resulting in a 69-66 Bobcat loss.
“This game was a tough loss for us, but I am optimistic for the rest of the season,” said junior Liam Gibson.
Junior Aiden Townsend was awarded the Player of the Game with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Despite their loss the day before, the Bobcats came out ready to win the next day in their season opener Tip-Off Tournament at Brentwood High School December 11. The boys defeated Northgate High school 61-39 to start the season on a good note.
Junior Sawyer Butler was award Player of the Game and All-Tournament Team Selection for his preform against Northgate—20 points, 3 steals, 3 assists.
To keep the win streak going, the boys defeated South Park High School 75-55 December 13 in their home opener. Senior Ryan Noel was named Player of the Game. Noel netted 18 points, had 3 steals, and 2 assists.
The JV team also added a win to their record with a 48-23 win over the Eagles.
“Starting off the season with a winning record is good for us, and I think it will be good motivation for us as we continue to go through the season,” said Gibson.
December 15 the Bobcats added to the win streak again when they traveled to Summit Academy. The team worked together and used their skills to defeat the Knights 65-53.
The JV boys also won their close game against Summit Academy 59-56.
Tomorrow the Bobcats travel to Lincoln Park; game time is 6 p.m. Come out and support the Bobcats before the holiday break!
