With one final exhilarating game, the Bobcats football team said goodbye to their impressive 2023 season.
The Bobcats are done with football until next spring when the team starts conditioning but ends this season with a 9-3 record.
This was an impressive year for the Bobcats considering expectations and hopes for the young team were fairly low at the beginning of the season.
The Bobcats fell to only Avonworth (twice) and West Mifflin this season, defeating all other opponents.
The Cats were able to claw their way into the second round of the playoffs and kicked off to the current section champions, the Avonworth Antelopes.
The game was played with the Lopes enjoying home-field advantage for a Veterans Day football game November 10.
The Bobcats came out of the locker room ready to fight and successfully made their mark on Avonworth’s defense in the first half.
The overly confident Antelopes seemingly walked into the stadium with a chip on their shoulder and were not prepared for the Bobcats explosive run game.
Junior Qualan Cain was able to score a rushing touchdown only two minutes into the first quarter, shocking the Lopes and proving that the game was going to be a good show.
But this would be the only time the Bobcats held the lead, and the Lopes were able to score on their next drive tying the score at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Despite past troubles, the Bobcat defense was the star of the show during this game, and they were able to hold the Antelopes to one score in the second quarter making the score 13-7 at halftime.
Usually a break at halftime benefits the Bobcats, and they have pulled ahead from previous teams (Beaver Falls and Western Beaver) after being down at the half, but in this game it proved to be the opposite.
The Bobcats quickly fell down a slippery slope and neither the defense nor offense was able to make any notable plays against the Lopes in the second half.
There was one impressive play for the Bobcats in this quarter where they completed a fake punt on a fourth down. Kicker and senior Evan Baker was able to connect a pass to junior Drey Hall to get an unexpected first down for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats allowed for two touchdowns in the third quarter to be scored from Avonworth making the score 27-7 with eleven minutes left to play.
Less than a minute into the final quarter Beaver Area threw an attempted touchdown pass that was intercepted in the end zone.
This turnover noticeably depleted the team's confidence and the fourth quarter proved to be no better than the previous.
The Antelopes scored twice more by the end of the game, but the Bobcats also put some points on the board.
With four minutes left in the quarter sophomore Travis Clear broke the plane on a one-yard rushing touchdown.
With the most impressive play of the game for the Bobcats with less than a minute to play in the game, junior Brady Mayo threw a 73 yard pass to junior Amari Jackson for a third touchdown. But it was too little too late.
The final score of the game was 41-21 with a Bobcat loss, a quiet bus ride home, and the 2023 Beaver Area football season coming to an end.
“The season was a lot of fun. We younger guys were stepping up and getting business done, and as a team, as the year went on, we got better and better,” said sophomore Rudy Young.
