The Future Business Leaders of America club's fundraiser for heart disease awareness ended March 5.
FBLA officers decide every year for which charity to hold a fundraiser. This year, any funds raised are to be donated to the American Heart Association. In total, the club managed to raise $81—not a bad sum considering the fundraiser’s limited window and the high school building’s reduced population.
Anyone who donated had their name written on a heart pinned outside Mrs. Guandolo's room. However, looking at the hearts, no students were listed.
According to club president junior Isabel Rubino, it’s been difficult getting students to donate.
"Students either don’t have a lot of money to donate or they just forget to bring money," Rubino lamented.
Thankfully, several teachers were able make the fundraiser a moderate success.
Latin teacher Ms. Victoria Abbondanza donated because of her family’s experience with heart disease.
“My grandfather had a few heart attacks, and I wanted to do what I could to prevent that for other people,” Ms. Abbondanze said.
Donors were also eligible to win $50 in gift cards donated by local Beaver businesses. This story will be updated to reflect the gift cards winners.
