They plan to take it to the mat.
The Bobcat wrestling team went all the way to playoffs last year and has high hopes for the up-coming season.
“I think the season will go really well. We have a good shot of making the playoffs this year again. Our team is full of talent; even the new members have potential,” stated junior Alec Coulter.
The boys practice every day after school from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
November 28, 15 wrestlers started their season with weight certification. Wrestlers meet in the nurse’s office for a urine test and to be weighed. First the doctor will weigh the wrestler then use skin calipers to see how much weight the wrestler is able to lose during the season. This determines which class the wrestler competes in. The lower the weight class the better.
“We’re going to have to figure some things out,” junior John Hall said after noting that the team ended up with too many wrestlers in some weight classes—and not enough in others.
Their returning coach, Matthew Hundenski, will be preparing the boys for the first tournament which is December 7-8 at Chartier’s Houston.
“This tournament is a very important tournament for our team. For a lot of our boys this will be the first time they have ever wrestled, and they test their limits for the first time. I expect a lot of us to place, including me, I wouldn’t expect anything less from our team. We have a good team this year with a lot of tough kids,” confidently remarked senior George Peroni.
