After securing the section championship for the first time in 4A, the Bobcats fell in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs.

The Bobcats traveled to North Catholic for the first game of their final series of the year May 5. Beaver Area pulled away late in the game to seal the 2-1 win while senior Ty Butler had another dominant performance on the mound striking out seven Trojans in 5.2 innings.

After the last game of the series was postponed by a day Beaver Area hosted North Catholic May 7 in their final section game. The section title was guaranteed with a win, but the Bobcats couldn’t convert falling 3-0 to the Trojans; however, despite the loss the Cats still clinched the section title.

Beaver Area still had one non-conference game remaining before the playoffs May 8 as they traveled to West Allegheny. Unfortunately, the game slipped away early for the Bobcats and they were never able to bounce back falling 10-0 to the Indians.

After the playoff bracket was released by the WPIAL, the Bobcats found out they were given the four seed which gave them a first round bye before having to play their first game.

With the section title and the four seed secured, the time had come for Beaver Area’s return to the playoffs where they faced Belle Vernon May 19 at Montour. Sadly, the Leopards held the Bobcats to just three hits while jumping out to an early lead in the third inning. From there the Leopards kept adding onto it ultimately winning 5-0 and ending the Bobcats’ historic 4A season.

Despite the playoff exit: “I’m very proud of the boys and the work they put in this year which led to a very successful season,” said head coach Michael Mabin.

Beaver Area finished their historic season with a 8-4 record in section play, which clinched their first section title in 4A.

The Cats lose several key seniors to graduation, but still look forward to next season and another shot at the championship.
