The much anticipated Mr. Beaver High competition was held February 16 and a new king was crowned.
This year’s contestants consisted of junior Robert Cestra and seniors Nathaniel Grundberg, Wyatt Ringer, Josh Hill, Mason McCarty-Cogis, and Josh Obrist.
It was a hard fought battle, but after a long decision from judges Mr. Grant Mandy, Ms. Susan Pilarski, Ms. Victoria Abbondanza, and Ms. Rachel Zahn, a winner was selected.
The annual event is sponsored by the junior class and all proceeds go to the prom fund. Tickets were sold at the door for $5 or students could have bought tickets from their favorite contestant prior to the show.
The seven contestants started the event with a group dance choreographed by junior Ana Avdellas. After, the guys danced and even worked out in the choreographed dance, they ran backstage to change for the first round—swimsuits!
“[The swimsuit competition] was terrifying, probably the scariest part of the show,” said contestant McCarty-Cogis.
The next category was the talent competition where the boys showed off their best skills in attempt to impress the judges.
First up was Grundberg who sang “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra, followed by Ringer who gave his artistic interpretation of the career of Miley Cyrus, and finishing out the first half of the show, McCarty-Cogis gave a dramatic reading of “Milkshake” by Kelis.
Then followed a brief intermission where audience members could stretch their legs or buy tickets for the FBLA’s “Feeding America” raffle basket.
After intermission, the talent show continued with Potts who sang “Old Eden” by Honey Water. Following Potts, Josh² preformed an emotional couples dance to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing.
Concluding the talent portion, Cestra wowed the crowed with his amazing magical skills in his magic experience.
Following the talent event, the guys showed how they could clean up in the formal wear category. Each of the guys brought their escorts onto stage in their most elegant outfits.
While still in their fancy outfits the boys were put to the test in how they could answer quick, tough questions in the fishbowl round.
Examples of questions included what their most prized possession was and what teacher they would like to spend a plane ride with.
At this time in the night, it was time for the judges to make their decision on this year’s king.
This years’s Mr. Beaver High was Josh Hill, with runner up being Josh Obrist, and second runner up being Wyatt Ringer.
“This year’s Mr. Beaver High was a success. Some years it’s not as fun, but the guys we had this year were terrific and we had a great turnout!” said organizer and junior class sponsor Mrs. Michelle Dietz.
