Popular artists have been dropping releases from all different genres lately, giving us anything from new pop to Christmas music to new alternative jams this season. Here are some of my favorite new things to listen to!
The 1975 came out with a new alternative album titled A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships. This album is full of hits, from the excitement of “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not with You)” to the more somber side of the album such as “Be My Mistake.” Matty Healy’s music continuously gets more of a rock reputation, but he insists they’re more of a pop-oriented band with this album, straying from the sounds of a few songs off of their earlier albums that implied more of a rock sound.
Tyler, The Creator released a new rap album that is Christmas themed called Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch. Tyler tweeted saying, “making Christmas themed music, but not too xmasy was the goal. Wanted them played in June too. Keeping 7 year olds in mind but also wanting the parents to listen also. I think I nailed it. Yup.” His confidence has attracted listeners for years and continues to do so with this popular new album. He also released his own take on the popular “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” exuding a rap vibe that creates a new side to classic Christmas tunes.
Ariana Grande has been dropping hints (and fiancés) of a new album after her new song “thank u, next” came out, along with its corresponding popular music video including appearances by dozens of other noted actors and stars. She has been tweeting lots about the new expected-to-be-pop album, teasing fans with tweets such as, “Hi from the booth. Finishing up,” and, “I don’t know when still, but it’s beautiful and waiting for you.” The single, “thank u, next,” attracted plenty of attention on social media, and the video attracted even more attention with stars like Kris Jenner and Troye Sivan appearing alongside her.
The Neighbourhood also released a new alternative album November 2 titled, Hard to Imagine the Neighbourhood Ever Changing. The band has always been known for more of a rock sound with an indie vibe, unlike their onetime tourmates The 1975’s pop-sounding alternative album. But don’t let the British spelling fool you; these California boys like to rock with some techno flourishes, plenty of featured hip hop guests (@Ghostface Killah) and an R&B infusion. It’s not necessarily “Sweater Weather” anymore. But yet it still is.
So we may not have gotten that Rihanna album we’ve been begging for this year, but lately we’ve been getting plenty of new music to sing along to in any mood. Enjoy!
