Pizza making, fruit smashing, and fluffy Puffles were staples of many current teenagers’ childhoods.
Club Penguin, the beloved game that waddled its way into our hearts in 2005, was heartbreakingly shut down in 2017 when its owners, Disney, felt the game wasn’t profitable enough.
Cry no more, Club Penguin fans, as of 2020, Club Penguin has returned! A fan-made version of the beloved game, New Club Penguin, is a copy of the original game, and though there are a number of advertisements, they are off to the side of the game screen and are not overly distracting.
“It’s the best game ever—I loved playing it when I was a kid. The nostalgia it gives makes it a ten out of ten,” shared junior Gracie Turyan.
Club Penguin is a great way for children to learn, have fun, and socialize with kids from all around the globe in a safe way.
The gameplay is simple: first, you create your avatar, a cartoon penguin who’s color, eyes, and outfits you can choose. From there, the possibilities are endless! You can create furry friends in the form of Puffles (and go on the quests for the gold and rainbow puffles), decorate your igloo, have a dance party, and collect coins from the various mini-games available in the game.
New Club Penguin does away with paid memberships, which was one of the only downsides to the original game. Now you can dress your penguin, decorate your igloo, and buy as many Puffles as you want, all for free!
All of the most beloved mini-games and activities remain in the New Club Penguin, including Pizzatron 3000, Cardjitsu, Smoothie Smash, and many more (Turyan recommends the ice jitsu game at the dojo).
