The golf teams recently wrapped up their winning seasons.
Heading into their last two weeks of matches, the Ladycats were 6-3. Their schedule for that week was a match against South Fayetteville September 9, Ambridge September 10, Ellwood City September 11, and Shadyside September 12.
The Ladycats started the week short by falling to South Fayette.
“The course was pretty challenging, but that’s not an excuse for another loss for us,” said senior Jill Dinsmore.
Despite South Fayette not being in the section, if the Ladycats had gone home with a win, it would have helped their overall record. However, they got back on the fairway with a win over Ambridge.
Top scores came from Dinsmore and sophomores Alaina Cerilli, Annsley Baker, and Charlotte Liller all shooting a 49.
The winning energy carried on to the next day when the Ladycats took another win against Ellwood City at Seven Oaks Country Club, Beaver Area’s home course.
A big opponent for Beaver Area is Shadyside Academy as they are sitting at first in the section. The Ladycats played good rounds but ended up falling short once again to Shadyside.
This loss took the team to WPIAL individuals September 17. In order to qualify individually for WPIALs, golfers have to shoot a 92 or lower in an 18 hole round. While all the girls golfed really well, Dinsmore was the onlyBobcat able to qualify shooting an 88. Dinsmore parred the front nine shooting 37, leaving her back nine score as a 51.
The rest of the team fell a little short of their target score, but still performed well considering it was the new team’s first time ever going to WPIALs.
The last match was then approaching the Ladycats September 19 against North Catholic.
The Ladycats had an emotional bus ride home ending their season on a hard fought loss.
“I’m very impressed with the season we had. We had some ups and downs but in the end we all got better and had fun, and that’s all that matters!” said Cerilli.
Dinsmore continued her quest through WPIALs September 23 at Willowbrook Country Club and made it to the next round which is today where she has to place in the top eight in order to go to the next round and attempt states.
The boys’ team also had a successful ending to their season by finishing top in their section.
Their last matches were against Central Valley September 9 and Beaver Falls September 11. The Cats captured two wins to secure their section first place finish.
The match against CV was a tri-match with Rochester. However, Rochester did not count for the Bobcats since the Bobcats have already beaten the Rams twice.
Senior Trevor Schmidt finished the course with a very impressive score of 33 in the tri-match. That was Schmidt’s best score all season, and the team came in clutch along with a team score of 199.
Beaver Falls also was an easy win for the Bobcats.
“We walked into the match with our heads high and came out with a win. We just had to play our own rounds and we knew we had this in the bag,” said sophomore Logan Weiland.
Outside of regular matches, sophomore Derek Hughes attempted WPIALs September 10 and successfully qualified for the next round. Unfortunately, he lost in the second round not shooting his target score.
