Winning. It’s what these girls do.
Beaver Area girls’ volleyball claimed their title as section champs this year after they finished in second place last year. This year’s seniors are Alyssa Ross and Lauren Sullivan.
“Coming into the season we knew we had to work hard, going undefeated in the first half of the season; losing to a rival team like Blackhawk was a real eye-opener. We knew we needed to readjust and continue to keep working hard for playoffs,” stated junior Lanie French.
Our Lady Cats start their playoff journey sometime next week, and who and when they play should be announced soon.
This year’s captains are Sullivan, junior Eden McElhaney, and junior Talia Gallagher.
“We were ranked third in the section, and ranked fifth in the WPIAL class 2A, so there was no expectations for us to win. We put in so much work in the off season and came out and dominated the section. It’s an honor being captain again this year,” exclaimed McElhaney.
This year the girls went undefeated in all of their section games; their biggest competition of the season was Ellwood City.
“Playing Ellwood was a really big game for us to win and to take the section, but we aren’t just satisfied with that. I have high expectations of us going far this year in playoffs,” said Sullivan.
Be sure to come out and support the girls when they face off against Thomas Jefferson after school today at 4 p.m. in a scrimmage!
