The past three weeks have featured some of the swim team's highest highs and lowest lows of the entire season.
February 13, the team had their final meet of the regular season against Riverside on senior night. Before the competition, a ceremony honoring the team's seniors was held.
Unfortunately, the team fared even worse than last year against Riverside, with both the boys' and girls' teams losing. The boys lost 93-87 and the girls lost by the razor-thin margin of 87-84.
With the regular season officially over, all that remained for the team were competitions at MACs and WPIALs. Swimmers must have achieved fast times throughout the season in their event of choice to qualify to attend these tournaments.
MACs was held February 15 at the Moon High School swimming pool. Most Beaver Area swimmers qualified at some point in the regular season meaning that there was a swimmer from Beaver Area in every event.
Held the same day as MACs, the WPIAL last-ditch qualifying meet was held at North Allegheny High School. The last-ditch meet is a non-competitive meet to allow swimmers their final opportunity to qualify for WPIALs.
The only swimmers in attendance from Beaver Area High School were the girls' 200 free relay team. After giving it their all, they were finally able to qualify to swim at WPIALs in their second attempt of the day after MACs.
Sophomore Emma Schaller, a member of the relay, was extremely proud of her teammates for qualifying.
"Even though we were tired from MACs we all got that adrenaline boost and we were able to push ourselves to the finish," Schaller said.
These are the first girls to attend WPIALs since the 2017-18 season.
The WPIAL diving competition was held February 21 at South Park High School. Only sophomore Nate Grundberg qualified to attend. He placed fifth.
Finally, to close out the season, the swimmers who qualified attended the WPIAL swimming competition at the Joe C. Trees Pool at the University of Pittsburgh February 27 and 28.
While the team may seem fast compared to their double-A rivals, in reality, they were often on the slower end of their larger WPIAL competition, being placed in the lower heats of most races.
With the season all said and done, no one summarized the team's feelings quite like senior Dan Cestra.
"I can finally take naps after school again," Cestra said.
