The tough section the Beaver Area boys soccer team play in holds them back from having a winning season.
The boys faced West Allegheny High School October 2. Working extremely hard to add a win to their record book, the Bobcats could not come out on top falling in a tough 6-0 loss for the boys.
October 5 the boys’ hopes were high for a win when they played Moon Area High School and were ahead 1-0 at the half. Unfortunately, yet again, it is the same story for the Bobcats: hard-hitting 8-1 loss for the boys.
When the Bobcats needed it most, it was time for celebration. October 7 was supposed to be senior night for the seven senior boys; unfortunately, the ceremony was postponed due to heavy rain, but the game was still on.
After fighting and working hard the entire game, the boys finally came out on top with a win 1-0 over Central Valley High School.
“It was really great to win after a couple harsh losses, and that win officially makes our record our best season record since I joined as a freshman,” shared junior Jameson Bonnar.
What made that victory even sweeter? Bonnar scored the game-winning goal.
“I knew I had plenty of time for the goal, and I just didn’t panic because I knew where I was going to shoot,” said Bonnar.
Sadly, the winning streak didn’t last for long for the Bobcats. October 11 the boys traveled to South Fayette High School looking for another win, but could not pull through.
Despite the Bobcats efforts offensively and defensively, the South Fayette Lions held the Bobcats all game resulting in a 4-0 Bobcat loss.
October 13 the boys took the pitch against Blackhawk High School for a rescheduled senior night to celebrate their seven seniors—Jakob Dingo, Garrett Pander, Cameron Crivelli, Connor Masters, Krystof Purtell, Colin Ord, and Casen Pontoli.
The boys came out hard, but unfortunately the Cougars scored first. Even though Blackhawk scored first, it wasn’t long before the Bobcats scored the equalizer. Freshman Even Baker hit the back of the net off a corner from Pander.
Unfortunately, like the Bobcats, it wasn’t long for the Cougars to come back and score another goal.
The boys had many offensive opportunities in the second half, especially in the last few minutes of the game, but unfortunately could not capitalize to net another goal. Another 2-1 loss for the Bobcats.
To wrap up the 2021 season, the boys took on Shaler Area High School in a home game October 16. Looking to end the season on a high note, the Bobcats worked hard all game and scored two goals: one by junior Alex Tomalski and one by Bonnar off a penalty kick. Unfortunately, Shaler’s boys scored four goals throughout the game resulting in a 4-2 Bobcat loss to end the season.
And just like that, another season has come and gone for the boys. This was another tough season for the Bobcats, but the boys never gave up. They continued to work hard at practices and games, but unfortunately the tough section they play in didn’t allow for much success. Final section record: 2-10.
Good luck to all the senior Bobcats! See ya next season!
