Another fun-filled CHK is in the books.
After battling among the classes, the senior class of 2019 took first place in the festivities; through dodgeball, holiday letter jumble, human table, multiple relay races, and the event-ending tug-of-war the gym was filled with laughter and holiday spirit December 21.
“The seniors had no competition; it was an easy dub,” said senior Harrison Pontoli.
CHK couldn’t happened without the dedication Mr. Dane Schlenke puts into it and the help of Student Council. They normally start planning CHK at the end of October, but this year (due to some unexpected staffing changes) they didn’t start until the end of November.
“I was really pleased with how things went; this year did not fail to disappoint. CHK never goes perfectly, but I wouldn’t change anything. If anything I wish more students would come and participate more,” said Mr. Schlenke.
There is a lot of planning behind the scenes to keep this tradition going at Beaver Area High School. Many teachers and students meet after school and during free periods to make sure this annual half-day celebration goes smoothly.
Some teachers also volunteer to help with the games or act as ‘refs’ ensuring fair play on the gym floor.
“I love CHK; I’m a big fan,” said physical education teacher and CHK volunteer Ms. Susan Pilarski.
But before the games, everyone gathered in the auditorium that morning for an impressive student talent show featuring: End of Thought, Paige Pisano, Breoni Johnson, Cali Meyer, Peyton Wilson, and the Sunset Patrol!
Following the music and dancing came the much-anticipated annual holiday video.
Senior Mikayla Obrist put in considerable time in effort in making the 2018 CHK video. If you want to rewatch the video you can find it on the WEKO’s YouTube channel.
“I had a lot of fun making it, and I really appreciate everyone who helped with the video!” Obrist said.
“I think it went extremely well, and I had lots of fun,” said sophomore Ethan Gengarella about the fun-filled half-day before the holiday break.
So you better start training, juniors. You’re expected to keep the winning tradition alive in just a little over 11 months . . . CHK 2019!
