What’s the best club in the whole world (unbiased opinion obviously)?
SHOUT!
Social Handprints Overcoming Unjust Treatment club is the club YOU should join next school year.
If you’re a fan of kindness, compassion, social justice, mental health initiatives, anti-bullying, and more, SHOUT is the club for you.
I joined SHOUT my junior year, and I can assure you that it was probably one of my best decisions of my whole high school career.
In my experience, SHOUT gets a bad reputation for having “liberal” or left leaning ideas. But I want to set the record straight that our club is not affiliated with any political agenda. All we strive for is to make BAHS a kinder, more empathetic environment.
We are also a club full of mostly women, but YOU can be the class that changes that. (Practicing kindness isn’t exclusive to women.🫡)
During my time in SHOUT, I’ve gotten the chance to do so many cool things that would’ve passed me by if I hadn’t joined.
Last October, the first time I was able to vote, we held a Voter Registration Drive. I got to meet so many fun people located in the Pittsburgh area who are involved in our county's political process and want to help young people practice their democratic rights.
Last February, my friends and I got the opportunity to read to the College Square kids in honor of Black History Month (and catch up with old teachers).
Last April, we held a National Alliance on Mental Health presentation for the whole student body. Although we would have liked to have an actual outside speaker and maybe more participation from students, we feel as though we helped some students, and that’s what matters.
Not to mention we hosted our annual Day of Giving that feels even more special when you’re not only participating but also helping to organize the huge event.
ALSO! Our teacher sponsors, Mrs. Heather Bixler and Ms. Aimee Firmani, are so supportive and involved, you won’t want to leave! (For real though, I’m dreading our last meeting. 😔😔)
So . . . JOIN SHOUT! Seriously . . . just go to one club meeting. You won’t regret it.
