This school year, many new staff members have been hired including Mr. John Lyon. Mr. Lyon is the new facilities manager for the Beaver Area School District. He is in charge of the pool, track, stadium, and all district buildings and their grounds. Here’s what you need to know about Mr. Lyon and what he does . . .
Where did you go to college?
University of Akron
How long have you been doing this particular job?
I have worked as either a facilities manager or a facilities director since 1995. Before that, I worked as an electrician.
Is this job what you have always wanted to do or did your “path” change and lead you to this occupation?
I worked construction for many years and then got in the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) electrical apprenticeship. I decided I wanted to have a job that I could see the impact I was having on the buildings and leave at the end of the day with a feeling of accomplishment.
What is something you want people to know about you?
I am approachable and always willing to help solve problems.
What is your favorite part about your job?
My job is always evolving. I hardly ever do the same thing on a day-to-day basis.
Did where you grow up have an impact on your occupation choice?
My grandfather was an IBEW electrician. We were very close. I decided to follow in his footsteps. When I got in the trades work was abundant.
What is your biggest strength to help people at Beaver Area High School?
I have had held many positions over the years. I bring this experience to the table.
What is the most satisfying part of your job?
The feeling of accomplishment when I complete a project.
The district is excited to welcome Mr. Lyon and his expertise here for the new year!
