Rosin up that bow . . . March 5-7, five students from Beaver Area High School participated in the PMEA Western Region Orchestra Festival at North Allegheny High School.
The festival’s culminating performance was held at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh.
Participating from Beaver Area were senior cello player Eric Bouwers, senior violinist Shawn Bouwers, senior violist Katina Playa, senior trumpet player Nathan Subroski, and junior violist Molly O’Neill.
Shawn Bouwers said, “This festival was a lot of fun. All of the participants were friendly and welcoming.”
The participants had the opportunity to work with guest conductor Mr. Daniel Meyer.
Playa stated, “I had a great experience performing under Daniel Meyer. I am so grateful for the opportunity.”
Mr. Meyer holds the titles of Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic, Artistic Director of the Westmoreland Symphony, and the Director of Orchestral Activities at Duquesne University.
Students who scored high enough at the event and are now advancing states April 25. Both Bouwers and Playa will participate.
Eric Bouwers shared about the festival, “I got to meet a bunch of amazing people.”
Beaver Area orchestra director Mrs. Caroline Russell said, “I thought the festival went very well and I am very happy that our students got to experience performing on the stage at Heinz Hall. Our students did a great job and I'm proud of them all, and especially proud of our three students who will be attending State Orchestra!”
