Have you ever gone to Friday Night Lights and wonder what it would be like to actually play? Wonder no longer, ladies! You can sign up for the 2023 powderpuff fundraiser game.
What is powderpuff? Basically, it’s just like normal football, but the gender roles are reversed. Girls play (flag) football while the boys cheer.
Plus, if you’re already on the football team you have a chance to coach the girls to victory.
Anyone, freshman through senior, can sign up for the games to play in the class-versus-class football tournament. To sign up just scan the QR code on the flyers hanging around the halls.
The QR code will take you to a Google form where you can pick what you want to be: a player, coach, cheerleader, or cheer captain.
The form also will also ask for your t-shirt size (S-XL) which you’ll get in your class color: green for freshmen, yellow for sophomores, red for juniors, and blue for seniors. Shirts for all participants are $15 and payments go to Room 106 by November 10.
The actual Powderpuff Tournament will take place November 19 at Pat Tarquinio Field. The first kickoff takes place at 2 p.m. All participants should report by 1:30 p.m.
In the first round freshmen and seniors will face each other while the sophomores and juniors will duke it out—the winners from those two match-ups will compete in the final.
Games are full field but played with a running clock, so things move quickly.
Freshman Kamryn Menhart plans to sign up for her first powderpuff game: “I’m excited for the game, but I’m not sure if we’ll win. I think the seniors will beat us by three touchdowns.”
Similarly, freshman Alexis Malec will participate in powderpuff for her first time too. She’s also excited but laughed when saying, “I can’t catch a ball, but we’ll see how it goes.”
Sign up before it’s too late! And if you just want to watch, admission is $2.
The event is sponsored and planned by the junior class officers, and all proceeds benefit the prom fund.
