As the summer approaches, so do quite a few new albums from artists big and small. From a variety of genres, here are the albums to look forward to the most this summer.

you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love - June 12

Olivia Rodrigo’s newest album is a highly anticipated one. After finding huge success on SOUR and GUTS, the lead single for this album, “drop dead,” has already gone viral. And it’s absolutely for good reason. It’s a great track that highlights Rodrigo’s incredible vocals, but it takes an instrumental turn from her previous records with a more dreamy feel to it as opposed to the less contained indie rock sound she was sporting beforehand. I’m really looking forward to this album, and if you’re a fan of Rodrigo’s past music, you should be too.

Crybaby - June 5

Vince Staples has been a well-known though not hugely popular name in rap for years, and coming off of Dark Times, an incredibly strong project, Crybaby is looking to be just as strong if not more so. It’s looking to be a political hip hop record with roots in rap rock which hopes to be an electrifying combo. Staples has always had a way with lyrics, so hearing him take them into a politically-charged album such as Crybaby is bound to make a fantastic album.

Reality Awaits - June 26

American indie rock outfit The Strokes have been making waves across the rock scene for quite some time as their early 2000s records are heavily praised by critics and audiences alike. However, singer Julian Casablancas has recently been at work with another band, The Voidz. Now, after six years, The Strokes are set to release a new album, and the singles show much similarity to Casablancas’s other band. If you’re a longtime Strokes fan, this one might be a change of pace.

The Wow! Signal

Muse has been an alt-rock staple for years, and although they’ve slowed down in quality with time, The Wow! Signal seems to promise somewhat of a return to form. Fans are optimistic about their recent singles, and I’m hoping that they continue this quality onto the album. Muse has always shown much potential in their more recent work, and hopefully it shines through on this project.

Do That Again

Of course I had to talk about Malcolm Todd, the internet’s new favorite indie artist. Multiple viral songs have elevated his recognition, and he’s now at a peak in popularity. This will be his second album after a few EPs and a mixtape, all of which were well-received by his audience. I’m hoping he sticks to his indie sound and doesn’t try to do too much on this record, but I wouldn’t mind another viral indie track off of it.
