Bobcat fans, are you ready for our softball girls to get back on the field?
The Bobcats take the field for a game opener March 14 against the Shenago Wildcats, and their home opener is March 21 against the Montour Spartans.
Look out for the return of senior pitcher Taylor Young who wears number 43 for the Bobcats who is coming off a season-ending injury last year.
Young said that she is excited to return and looks forward to making her last year the best year.
The Lady Bobcats have many goals this season especially after the Bobcats had a rough going last year winning two games.
Young hopes for a better outcome this year—with her back in the lineup and a more matured team she hopes to make a playoff run this year, and a year filled with good health and good memories.
“My favorite softball memory is definitely winning WPIAL my freshman year, and that I played a significant part in. We made it as far as the semifinals in states then lost,” Young said.
Some of Young’s accomplishments were in her freshman year when she was an All-WPIAL and All-Section player selection, and sophomore year when she again was All-Section.
Young is also a two-year letter award winner, and would have been three if she wasn’t injured last year.
The team looks forward to improve their attitude and play more as a team than as individual players.
Young said it’s all about “we over me” this season. That’s what she hopes the team carries into this season.
The best advice Young gives the underclassmen and incoming high school athletes is to work hard on the field and in the weight room. Also, never let a coach ruin the love and fun you have for the game.
Young’s future plans are to attend Seton Hill to continue playing softball and majoring in exercise science.
Young looks forward to this season and her last high school season ever—especially with her senior teammates who she grew up playing with.
Big shoutout to our other seniors: Samantha Springman, Makenzie Springer, and Meghan Boyd.
Best of luck to our Bobcats this season! Make sure to follow the ECHO for more season coverage.
