Track season is finally complete with the end of state competitions in Shippensburg May 26.
Unfortunately, no boys qualified for the event, so only girls attended.
The most notable victory of the competition was sophomore Emma Pavelek who got second in high jump and was the only competitor from Beaver Area to medal. Other notable victories included junior Grace Stovka, who placed ninth in the 300 hurdles, as well as senior Maria Miocic for pole vaulting and senior Emily Brown (the ECHO's Athlete of the Year) for the 3200.
Stovka was proud of her team's achievements.
"Everyone worked hard to get to states, which is an achievement in itself. As a whole, we did really well. Overall, I’m very proud of the progress we made!" Stovka said.
Several athletes from tracks who did not qualify for states went anyway to cheer on their teammates.
"I think the girls did well. They ran extra fast that day," said senior Don Hare.
Naturally, with the season ending, the athletes' focus shifts to next year. Stovka believes the team has a chance to do even better.
"We’re going to lose a lot of good seniors [to graduation]. However, I feel like the team will be motivated to work even harder since the results were very close," she said.
