Feel that pep? The Beaver Area Pep Band has started up again.
The band is under the direction of College Square Elementary Music Teacher Ms. Ellen Davis.
“The After-School Pep Band is a high-energy group of around 30 talented musicians from grades 8-12, bringing the spirit and excitement to a handful of High School basketball games. We are responsible for energizing the crowd with popular songs, fight songs, and drum cadences that fuel the team spirit and rally school spirit,” explained Ms. Davis.
The group has attended several boys and girls basketball games this season.
Ms. Davis added, “Whether it’s a timeout or a buzzer-beater shot, this band knows how to keep the energy up and the fans on their feet!”
Unlike the marching band look students might be familiar with from football games, pep band sports more casual attire. In fact, freshman Alayna Pentz designed the uniform t-shirts for the band this year.
Students were asked to enter uniform designs, and then voting took place to determine the winner. Pentz was voted the winner and the design was put onto uniform shirts.
Students in the group are able to use and share skills that they learned from the marching band season, including using music they have memorized, and instruments they have used.
Drumline instructor Mr. Louis Didio explained, “The Pep Band was excited to be a part of the electric atmosphere at both the boys and girls games vs. Central Valley. We are excited to be at events in the future. Go Cats!”
Keep an eye and ear open for the pep band performing at the Bobcats’ remaining basketball games.
