Can teamwork really make the dream work for the Beaver Area Boys basketball team? The signs are pointing to . . . maybe?
The Bobcats boys basketball team are currently sitting at an overall record of 8-9 and a conference record of 4-4.
After the exciting Beaver Area win against the Central Valley Warriors January 2, the Bobcats traveled to Blackhawk to tip off against the Cougars.
The game was January 5 and the Bobcats were able to improve their conference record and ride home with another win under their belts.
The Cougars could not handle the Cats because the final score was 75-58.
This was Beaver Area’s largest winning margin throughout the normal season so far.
After a long break (by basketball standards) the Bobcats tipped off against the Ambridge Bridgers January 12. This was a close fought game by the Bobcats, but they were unable to pull away during any time of the game and closely lurked behind the Bridgers all night.
At the final buzzer, the score was 60-56 and the Bobcats had to add another loss to their conference and home game record.
Unknowingly to the Bobcats this game would start a four-game long losing streak.
Following the Ambridge loss, the Bobcats fell to the Mohawk Warriors, 65-56 at the Ron Galbreath Classic tournament. The Tournament was held at Westminster College January 13.
The Mohawk loss sent the Bobcats packing before the second set of games.
Hoping for a conference win, the Bobcats then went to Cranberry to take on the always-powerful North Catholic Trojans January 16.
In the battle between public vs. private schools, the Bobcats were not able to win with a final score of 64-49.
Following their string of road games and losses the Bobcats added one more when Beaver Area traveled to their close neighbors in Midland to tip off against the Lincoln Park Leopards.
The last time the Bobcats met the Leopards was at home for their season opener and ended in a high-scoring loss of 97-67.
The Bobcats were not looking for a win at this January 19 game but rather a close game that would make the Leopards work for their victory. But this was not to be.
The Bobcats lost by a margin of 50 points with a final score of 88-38.
Again the Bobcats and their public school sports opportunities were trumped by the budget and opportunities of a charter school.
Beaver Area was able to stand back up and dust off after such a hard loss for yet another section game against the Hopewell Vikings. This was the first game since playing Ambridge that the Bobcats would be playing a team who was close to their level.
The Bobcats were on the prowl for a section win and were decidedly successful against the Vikings as the Vikings fell to the Bobcats with a final score of 75-41.
Tensions are now high for the basketball team in whether or not they will be able to finish with a winning season.
Beaver Area will next tip off against Central Valley and Blackhawk January 26 and 30. Check the next BASD ECHO for coverage of the Bobcat basketball journey throughout the rest of the season!
