The Bobcats baseball team has had a good start to the season.
Despite having seven postponements to start the season, that hasn’t stopped the Bobcats from coming away with a few wins.
March 21 the Bobcats played Highlands in their home opener and came away with a 5-1 win to start the season. Senior Jack Ray pitched four innings and recorded eight strikeouts on the mound.
“It felt good to be back in season and be back on the field,” said Ray.
The Bobcats’ next opponent was New Castle at home March 28 when they won 5-1 again. Ray pitched another four innings in the win and had 10 strikeouts. Sophomore Ty Butler also went 2-for-4 in his at bats including an RBI.
The next day the Bobcats traveled to Butler March 29 when they lost for the first time this season in a close game 4-3. Freshman Maddox Tanner pounded a triple and had an RBI as well as getting walked once.
The Bobcats first section game was at Hopewell April 3 when they lost a close match-up 6-5. Tanner went 2-for-4 at the plate including a double and three RBI’s. Senior Isaac Pupi also had two hits in the loss as well.
“I think the boys are doing well and are off to a good start. There’s still work that needs to be done, and I hope we can improve as the season progresses,” said head coach Noah Medich.
The Bobcats next three home games are against Montour April 12, Central Valley April 18, and Ambridge April 24. All games are at 4 p.m. at Hardy Field in Brighton Township.
