The cross country season had a bittersweet end in Hershey for senior Will Lamb, the only Beaver Area runner to qualify for state competitions.
November 7, Lamb finished 27 out of 131 runners with a time of 17:39.00 in the 2A division at the PIAA XC Championship.
While his placement may appear to be an improvement over last year, Lamb ran slower this year compared to the 2019 championship which he ran in 17:20.30.
The improvement in rank but not time likely owes itself to a smaller crowd of runners due to the pandemic.
Lamb is understandably upset about his performance at Hershey. When asked how he did, Lamb only managed to say, "Poorly."
"I got twenty-seventh when I should have been top-ten and possibly [top] five. I just had an off day again for some reason," Lamb lamented.
Lamb was not able to qualify for any national-level races, meaning the cross country season has officially ended.
This, however, does not mark the end of Lamb's running career as he has been accepted into Duquesne University, earned a scholarship, and will compete in Duquesne’s division-I track program—accomplishments which should ease the sting of an increased PIAA Championship time.
