After battling injury after injury, the Beaver Area Bobcats stay by each others’ sides.
On senior night, the Bobcats faced Montour, a team looking to secure a playoff spot. The Bobcats pulled out the win late in the fourth quarter after acquiring a safety from Montour’s running back on defensive end, Jaydin Sallis.
“I was getting held all game, but I was also like, ‘wow . . . we just won because of that?’” reflected senior Sallis.
“That was a great team win for our seniors as a section upset on the Tarq,” explained junior Mason Lang about the much needed win on the Bobcat home turf: the Pat Tarquinio Field.
As the seniors play their last high school football game, the rest of the team already is getting ready for next season and doing everything they can to be the best, as a team, as they can be.
“For next season, even though it’s sad for Coach Beltz to be leaving, we are going to have to get back to work no matter who the coach is and try to come out victorious and have a better season,” explained Lang.
Coach Beltz took an administrative position with the Moon School District last month ending his 20 year Bobcat run. He currently has no plans to continue coaching.
October 30 was the Bobcats’ last game of the 2020 season. Sadly they fell 30-21 against the Freedom Area Bulldogs despite Lang’s fumble recovery for a TD.
As this was Coach Beltz’s last game, Freedom Area was his alma mater, so it was a fitting send-off for the end of his Beaver Area coaching career.
So long, coach; so long, seniors . . . But rest assured that the Bobcats will use the offseason to get healthy and be ready to take the field next season.
