Time to pep it up!
The band is back in the bleachers once again for this year’s home basketball games . . . well, not the full marching band but a core squad of musicians.
Consisting of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors the pep band is ready to play tunes like “Smoke on the Water”, “Let’s go Cats”, “Techno”, and everyone’s favorite, “Land of 1000 Dances” to motivate the girls and boys basketball teams and their fans.
Senior Evan Linkimer, the drum major of the Beaver Area High School marching band, put together the pep band last year and continues to lead it with pride.
Who can participate in pep band? Anyone in concert band or marching band, that’s who. The more, the better! To sign up for pep band, see Linkimer or band director Mr. Scanga for more information.
“This is my first year in pep band,” stated freshman Caleb Starkey, “and I think it’s a blast at the basketball games even if the band only plays two songs.”
From field to stage to now the bleachers, the band will continue to show school spirit wherever they might be. If you plan to attend basketball games this school year, be sure to look for the big brass instruments crowding the bleachers.
“I’ve only been in pep band for two years,” said senior Liana Kerr, “but I hope it continues with next year’s band and for many years to come.”
