Girls tennis? More like “girls menace” . . . other tennis teams as the Bobcats steamroll the competition in their 2024 fall season 🥳🥳
Junior Anna Mrkonja continued her winning streak by becoming Section Singles Champ at her match September 11. She also earned the title of runner-up in MAC Singles.
September 19, MrKonja took the WPIAL bronze and earned herself a spot at Hershey. That third place finish in singles qualified her for the PIAA Singles Tournament November 1-2 in Hershey. Go Anna!
September 23, the team also celebrated their Section Singles win and honored senior Hailey Ziegler (also team’s only senior this year) during her Senior Night.
Ziegler says that although their previous match against Blackhawk on senior night was a tough match, ultimately winning on senior night made the evening that much more special.
Besides varsity tennis, Ziegler is very invested in our school, participating in a variety of activities such as National Honors Society, Academic Games, and Student Council.
As for underclassmen accomplishments, freshman Brynn Lasavage was the MAC runner-up for second singles. Way to go Brynn!
Coach Janet DiTullio’s team as a whole had some impressive feats as well. They won second place in the Midwestern Athletic Conference out of 16 teams. Additionally, the girls were first-place champions of double-A section 4.
The girls have a 7-0 section record and an overall record of 8-3.
The players are not the only ones having a great season. Coach Ditullio was inducted into the Beaver Area Athletic Hall of Fame for tennis September 27 for both her accomplishments as a Bobcat athlete and her years of tennis coaching. Congrats to Coach Ditullio!
Besides the three players previously mentioned, there are 11 other girls on the team who have killed it in their fall season: Lily Biela, Bella Churovia, Grace Churovia, Helaina Householder, Gabrielle Hutter, Sofie LeMasters, Katherine Nesbella, Aleena Schoenberger, Gianna Swogger, Ella Temple, and Madelyn Walker.
Congratulations to all the girls for their hard work, dedication, and another winning tennis season.
