It’s a sign of the times . . .
Are you interested in learning American Sign Language? If so be sure to stop in Mrs. Stevie Green’s room, 104, at some point to get more information.
Although Mrs. Green is sponsoring of the club, the extent of her current sign knowledge is the ASL alphabet so you will be learning along with her.
“We are hoping for the club to expand and will welcome anyone interested in the club. Learning sign language is very interesting, and I’m excited to expand my knowledge,” said Mrs. Green.
Haley Goettman, a sophomore, is fluent in ASL and teaches whomever comes to the meetings. Last year she even arranged for a special guest who knows more sign than her to visit and work with the other students. Club members are hoping to get someone to come in and do that again this year.
Currently, there isn’t a set number of people in the club—attendance is somewhat informal—so sometimes four people show up, while last week they had ten. Anyone is welcome to attend any of these weekly meetings. The dates and times are always posted outside Mrs. Green’s room.
Most students who attend meetings have no prior sign language experience. Right now they are working on perfecting the alphabet and learning word signs. During the meeting they watch online videos to help expand their knowledge.
Talk to Mrs. Green or Haley if you have any further questions about the ASL Club!
