Senior year is full of opportunities to make the last year as memorable as it can be. This year, seniors made their mark differently: on the pavement.
As a fundraiser for the senior class, students were able to pay $20 (in addition to the $30 campus parking pass fee) for a chance to paint their very own parking spot for the year.
Approved by our gracious principal Mr. Sean Snowden, more than 70 students of the senior class took advantage of this new opportunity to start their school year.
In total, students paid $50 for their parking pass and a chance to paint a spot of their choosing. Senior class members brought their paint and brushes and expressed their art skills August 19.
Many of the senior class members taking advantage of this memory-making endeavor even brought their families along with them to join in on the shenanigans.
Seniors like noble Noah Miser did designs based on their favorite childhood TV shows: “I chose SpongeBob because it was my favorite childhood show,” Miser said.
Myself included, many students arrived on campus bright and early to make sure they got a good spot, and some even camped overnight (not cool, guys) ensuring their pick of the best parking spots.
As the seniors soon found out, 5 a.m. was actually too early a wake-up time as there were still plenty of spots available despite initial fears.
However, seeing the groggy, tired faces of their classmates that early in the morning is something the seniors will never forget.
Most students mirrored their designs after their unique personalities.
Senior Tessica Ho stated that “the colors and heart design [I painted] emulate my personality very well.”
With a set time of five hours to complete their artwork, students scrambled to get their ideas onto the blacktop. Even a leaf blower was being passed around to quickly solidify the pleasant paint.
Unfortunately, due to an ill advised paint measurement from a Lowe’s employee (we still love you, Monaca Lowe’s) my friends and I scurried off to the store to purchase more latex pigment with the clock ticking.
Returning to the school armed with new paint, we quickly continued our artistic journeys. As the clock ticked, senior Kayla Head and I weren’t sure if we could get the job done in time.
However, with the help of our friends (and some Nicki Minaj) we were able to complete the daunting project within our time limit. The flowers look great.
The class of 2025 is grateful for this special opportunity provided to us by our administration and excited to add parking spot painting to a list of cherished Beaver Area traditions!
