This year’s CHK event is off to a lively albeit unusual start. The annual competitions have already begun with several noteworthy changes.
While spirit week’s daily dress-up themes remained, the pivotal change this year is tomorrow’s CHK Day. CHK Day usually includes a talent show and the annual WEKO video in the auditorium followed by the reindeer games session in the gym after lunch.
Unlike years past, this year students will join a Zoom session to view the talent show portion of CHK Day showcasing various student-submitted videos. After the talent portion, students will join separate Zoom sessions for the reindeer games portion of CHK Day in which students will compete to earn points for their respective grade levels.
Games will include Zoom-based scavenger hunts, Christmas Kahoot, the “Naughty List,” Pictionary, and more!
Even the CHK school day start time is different this year: students don’t need to join their usual first period Zoom session until 8:30 a.m. giving them a little bit of extra rest before the fun begins. After attendance is taken the talent video will be shown, and then students will be directed to other Zoom game sessions.
Another change to CHK is the timeframe in which it will occur. Unlike previous CHK’s, this year’s will continue beyond Winter Break. Students now have the ability to compete to earn points for their grade levels long after CHK Day concludes.
While competitions have already begun, students already had an opportunity to earn points for their grade level before tomorrow’s CHK Day. For spirit week, students wore their favorite ugly holiday sweater, maroon and grey, tie-dye, PJ’s, Christmas-in-July attire, favorite sports team jerseys, and their CHK shirts tomorrow.
Students were encouraged to email a selfie of themselves to a Student Council member, to earn points for their grade level. Anyone with questions on spirit week should check the WEKO Schoology page for more information.
CHK is a time of competition, celebration, and collaboration—and this year will carry that theme from years past. It has been a rough year for many students, and hopefully CHK will help heal the wounds of 2020.
In any form, long live CHK!
