Can our very own Bobcat volleyball team turn their winning season into a WPIAL championship? The signs are pointing towards yes.
The Bobcats are currently 10-0 in non-tournament matches. This includes winning every conference and section games the team has had.
A section championship is almost guaranteed for the Bobcats, but clinching the WPIAL title will prove more of a challenge for the girls.
“I think that the season is going great! We’re all playing higher than everyone’s expectations and it’s definitely shocking other teams. I think we will go pretty far this year,” said junior Kaelin Wooley.
The Ladycats swept the Neshannock Lancers September 19 at home.
This was the Bobcats hardest section matchup to date but they still won every set with scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-15.
Senior Chloe List once again led the team towards victory with 14 kills and 14 digs. Middle hitter sophomore Kailyn Connelly also had 10 kills. And finally, junior setter Zoe Ringer had 33 assists.
Connelly explained that “We came into this season ready to work and obviously it has paid off. We are playing hard and we have more to come!”
Two days later, Beaver Area faced Laurel and won once again in a sweep. The September 21 matchup ended with List having 9 kills and 11 digs, Connelly having a season high of 13 kills, and Ringer having 32 kills.
On defense the Bobcats won with sophomore Aubrey Bumblis having 12 digs, junior Sophia Sharpless with 6 digs, and junior Allie Williams had 3 aces. Outside hitter and sophomore Jaedyn Brown also had 9 kills and 2 aces.
The Bobcats faced Ellwood City September 26 for an away match that was seen as an easy win going into the game. This match up resulted in yet another sweep win.
Just a day later, September 27, the Ladycats took on Mohawk. This match ended in another sweep . . . but just barely.
In the third set the Bobcats won with a score of 25-22 almost defeating their undefeated set record.
Despite the close call, the game still ended in a win and was played well by all players.
List had 10 kills and 13 digs, Connelly had 10 kills, and Ringer had 34 assists. Bumblis also had 19 digs, and Vinopal had 5 aces. Brown had a season high of 10 kills and 2 aces.
Beaver Area was also helped to the win with defensive specialists sophomore Miley Hapich and Sharpless.
