The Beaver Area girls softball team is ready to play, but early season game cancellations is slowing them down.
March 17 was supposed to be the Bobcats first scrimmage of the season against Pine-Richland High School, but unfortunately the scrimmage was rescheduled for a later date due to the unexpected snow squall. To make matters worse, later this scrimmage was scratched from their schedule all together after being postponed two more times.
Finally, March 22, the Bobcats were able to take the field for their first game. The girls traveled to Riverside High School for a scrimmage. The returning WPIAL and PIAA Champs have big plans to return to Hershey for another PIAA Championship this season, so starting the season with a huge 10-1 win over Riverside starts the journey back to Hershey.
The Bobcats were suppose to have their first three section games against Shenango High School March 28, New Castle High School March 29, and Ambridge High School April 2. Unfortunately, the difficult weather conditions ended up postponing all of these games to later, unknown dates.
“Due to the bad weather, we were only able to have one scrimmage so far which is not what we wanted to happen. We have to take advantage of the time we can get outside as much as we can so that we can play our best when we can eventually play our games,” shared senior Dani Springman.
Finally, April 4, the Bobcats were able to kick off the regular season against Central Valley High School. After having their last three games canceled, the girls were ready to play in any weather condition—luckily only a sprinkle of rain fell before the first pitch.
The Bobcats came out hungry for their first section win of the season and their motivation paid off with a 3-1 win over the Warriors.
In a dramatic change of venue, this week the Bobcats travel to South Carolina for the Grand Strand Softball Classic. The team will have three guaranteed games against South Range High School tomorrow, Riverside High School (Painesville) Wednesday and Louisa County High School Thursday, but could play more if they win against these teams.
Good luck, Bobcats!
