Warning: spoilers below!
You’ll float to IT Chapter Two, but should you?
Being the fanatic that I am, I have read the famous Stephen King novel and, obviously, seen the original movie which upped my standards for the new IT. IT Chapter One took me by surprise. I’m not one to like remakes, but IT Chapter One surprisingly met my standards. It was definitely the type of scary horror movie I’ve grown to love.
On the other hand, I found the recent IT Chapter Two to be repetitive, infuriating, and pointless. For starters, the producers use the same jump scares over and over again. Pennywise showing his razor sharp teeth is getting old. Yes, it might be a tad bit horrifying, but it’s severely overused throughout the movie. Change it up a bit!
There is no fun in watching a predictable movie as well as a movie that changes the original storyline (don’t worry, I’m aware of the irony). In the 1990 original, no one but Stanley dies. However, the second movie ends up killing off both Eddie and Stanley. One character is enough! I understand that they kill off Eddie to emphasize the fact that Richie is in love with Eddie, but Richie’s situation could have been explained in a completely different way. Eddie, in fact, had no reason to get killed.
Stanley’s death, on the other hand, shapes the plot of the whole movie.
Not only do they kill off one extra character, but they change Richie’s fear of werewolves into a fear of clowns. Originally, Richie was terrified of werewolves which is why IT took the form of a werewolf, but in the new movie Richie has a fear of clowns, which again changes the storyline a bit.
Lastly, the casting has its ups and downs (pun intended? Maybe). Richie Tozier in the original movie was, in fact, a redhead. In the newer version of IT they, the producers, cast Finn Wolfhard who has a head of black hair. What!? Richie Tozier is and always will be a redhead in my mind. He just works as a ginger.
The decision is yours. Will you go to see IT Chapter Two? King fans won’t be satisfied, but probably will see it anyway. But don’t blame me if you don’t like it.
