Students selected to NHS are chosen because they exemplify the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.
Students must have a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible to apply.
But grades aren’t the only thing that matter. Those who choose to apply submit an application to showcase who they are and how they show the four pillars of NHS in their lives.
These applications are evaluated by a strict panel of judges who choose the applicants who best exemplify what it means to be in NHS. The process is selective and it is a great accomplishment for all who were inducted.
The induction ceremony was hosted by the NHS officers, President Ella Peluso, Vice President Ana Avadellas, Secretary Abby Noah, Treasurer Gary Liu, and Historian Maddy OLeary, the chapter advisor Mrs. Erin Bechdel, and the other returning NHS members, Ella Andrew, Caden Biela, Alexander Duzicky, Rachel Lamb, Jack Ray, Brandon Suhayda, Luke Tomalski, Alexander Tomalski, and Dylan Young.
The ceremony also included speeches from Director of Strategic Initiatives and Community Relations Dr. Jessica Hiles and District Superintendent Dr. Mark Holtzman.
Beaver Area’s NHS Chapter is responsible for many acts of community service, most notably the Backpacks Program, which provides weekly meals for children in the district who face food insecurity.
These new inductees to the program will serve the community alongside already established members of NHS through this program and many others to come.
