The Bobcats’ playoff run ended too soon.
Despite the exit, such a successful run came as a surprise to some after last season’s remarkable Bobcat performance. As most know, in school sports, a year can make a huge difference as star seniors graduate and new players find their footing.
After going 13-3 in the regular season, the young Beaver Area girls basketball team advanced to the playoffs with high hopes . . . for hoops.
Their first round playoff win, 46-28, over Freeport High School was motivation and a confidence boost for the girls as they advanced to the quarter finals.
Taking their home court again February 25, the Bobcats tipped off against Elizabeth Forward High School. Every minute of the game the Bobcats fought hard and battled for possession against Elizabeth Forward.
Throughout most of the game, the scoreboard read equal points for both teams until the very last minute. Unfortunately, the Elizabeth Forward girls managed to score twice more before the final buzzer resulting in a devastating 46-42 loss for the Bobcats.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Head Coach Greg Huston is proud of the season the girls had this year and is looking forward to what next season brings.
“For such a new, young team, this season was a true success. We didn’t achieve all the goals that we set for ourselves, but the girls should be proud of all that they accomplished. The experience we gained this year should definitely help us as we look forward to next year,” shared Coach Huston.
A special congratulations to senior Payton List on her amazing career as a Bobcat basketball player. The team is grateful for the foundation she has laid for the future of the Beaver Area Girls Basketball program.
Until then, see you next season!
