The last two weeks have, for the boys' track and field team brought the end of their season, and for the girls' team, advanced them into the playoffs.
The meet at Beaver Falls High School, April 13 was cancelled due to weather, so the team was left with only two meets to run the last two weeks.
First, the team competed at Blackhawk, with Ambridge also in attendance. At this meet, the boys' team lost by a razor thin margin of one point. With this unfortunate loss, the boys will not be attending playoffs, with their last practice being April 26.
Senior Donald Hare wasn’t exactly miserable with the fate of the team.
"I’m not that disappointed, and I don’t think the team is either. Every time we make playoffs we end up facing a team like North Allegheny and get out the first round. This means one less meet."
"Well, it kind of stinks, but I feel like we’re all burned out, so it’s nice to not keep going," said freshman Nathaniel Grundberg.
However, the girls fortunately won the Blackhawk meet, and will be advancing to playoffs.
"I’m super pumped to go to playoffs," said sophomore Paige Pisano.
The team also attended the MACs tournament at Mars April 24.
Several Beaver Area students won top spots in specific events, including senior Andrew Cestra coming in first in pole vaulting, sophomore Emma Pavelek in high jump, and senior Grace Stovka in the 300 hurdles.
“We have one of the best pole vaulting teams in the WPIAL, so we usually sweep every meet," said Cestra.
Good luck to all girls competing at playoffs today at Greensburg High School!
