Cross country, the sport most commonly described as "running far fast," began its season over the summer, and its runners having been running hard ever since.
Although the first regular season meet was September 10, Beaver Area runners competed in five preseason meets and invitationals beforehand.
The most recent invitational was the Red, White, and Blue Meet, where the team placed third in double-A. Junior Will Lamb, however, placed first out of all double-A competitors.
That first official meet of the regular season was held in New Castle, and with excellent results. Beaver came in second in front of West Allegheny but behind New Castle. Lamb once again came in first out of all runners competing.
Junior runner Sydney Monit was pleased with the team's results.
"I was really proud of the boys and the girls. Will and Ana had amazing performances, and the girls did great too. Even though we didn’t win, almost every girl got a personal record, which is impressive considering how hot it was," she said.
Senior Daniel Cestra was slightly more apathetic to what happened at the meet.
"I don’t really care what happens, I’m just here to get in shape," he admitted. With that said, his plan seems to be working.
"I am in the best shape I have ever been."
With these results, Lamb is quite hopeful at the team's prospects for the rest of the season.
"The guys' team has potential as long as we can fill in some gaps. The girls' team is having more of a growth year after losing some crucial seniors, but they’re still running strong and have plenty of younger talent stepping up," he remarked.
