Grab your sunscreen, pull up Google maps, and don’t forget your camera because European summer is finally here! Or at least it was for the Beaver Area Switzerland Italy trip.
The trip was organized by Spanish and art teacher Mrs. Rachel Zahn in conjunction with EF Tours which Mrs. Zahn has been working with since she graduated college.
The decision of where to go was determined by Mrs. Zahn and student interest. In this case, the most popular student request was Italy.
There were a total of 28 Beaver Area students and family members who participated from ages 13 to even 80 years old. Students paid $5000 for the all-inclusive experience.
They first flew into Lucerne, Switzerland July 10, then spent the next few days in Zurich. After Zurich, the group went to Mt. Rigi. Students took a cog wheel train to reach the top of the mountain.
Junior Antonella Brkich said, “It was cool on the train; when you stood up it looked like you were standing sideways because the hill was so steep.”
Unfortunately, the way down wasn’t as pleasant. On the cable car return trip, there was some trouble with overcapacity. Because the cable car was packed, it started swaying.
Junior Sofie Lemasters said, “I was scared—but it was fun. The beauty of the surroundings took away the fear.”
After two days in Switzerland, the group took a flight to the boot: Italy. In Italy, the group first visited Venice, then Florence, and finally Rome.
While in Italy, the group had more free time to explore shops, street life, and experience the culture.
Mrs. Zahn took a liking to Venice because of the specialty artisan shops and the “cool and dirty vibe.” She even got a handmade aluminum ring.
The group also visited iconic landmarks in Italy such as the Tower of Pisa, The Colosseum, and the town of Assisi.
The Bobcat travelers returned home July 20 tired but filled with wonderful memories.
All in all, the trip was a success! Be sure to keep an eye out for information about the next summer trip, Belize, or speak with Mrs. Zahn.
