Do you get nervous when you have to present in class? Well imagine presenting to the district administration and representatives from Apple.
Beaver Area’s STAP students presented to Superintendent Dr. Mark P. Holtzman, Assistant Superintendent Ms. Emily Sanders, and Apple representatives Brian Dorfner and Scott Hartnett.
The Student Technology Assistance Program was initially designed to help the techs manage all the Beaver Area School District iPads. After seeing what the students could do, Mr. James Shay, director of technology, decided to add more departments to become what STAP is today.
September 16, a total of 11 students presented about the STAP program to help give a better understanding of what the program is.
“If I want [STAP] to be impactful for the people we are presenting to, I think they need to hear it from the people that are doing it every day,” Mr. Shay explained about why the students presented the program.
The Freshman 4, Eleni Avdellas, Ella Tharp, Mia Haywiser, and Olivia Tabone, started the presentation by talking about the history of STAP, the seventh grade STAP class, the Minions class, and the interview process for selecting new STAP members. They have been presenting this specific presentation for about a year, and will continue to present it together throughout their high school careers.
“I feel like it went very well and we did make an impact and hopefully are spreading the word about STAP through the community,” said Haywiser.
The admin girls, senior Ana Avdellas, sophomore Charlotte Schultz, and senior Elizabeth Logan, described the grading process, scheduling, and many other administrative tasks throughout the program. These students have a great understanding of how the program runs and will present this content until they graduate.
“This would be like my third or fourth presentation, so I think each time we keep doing it I’ll keep improving,” Schultz said.
Finally, there were five department heads, senior Emily Young head of Teacher Trainings, senior Ella Peluso head of the Maker Lab, junior Lauren Nesbella head of Networking, and sophomore Jullian Dinsmore head of iPads and jamf (a website used to manage student information and resources). They all gave a brief description of their departments and what they do.
Eleni Avdellas also described STAP’s new podcast called the Bobcast.
“I think the Bobcast is a good opportunity to spread STAP in a new and creative way,” Eleni Avdellas stated.
Mr. Shay believed the presentation was well practiced and one of the best presentations STAP has presented yet.
“I’m always confident in my kids. 110 percent,” Mr. Shay stated.
